MarinART Challenge
Welcome to the MarinART Challenge—an international photography competition that celebrates urban art inspired by the ocean. This initiative is part of the European marine research project GES4SEAS (www.ges4seas.eu, Horizon Europe, Grant Agreement nº 101059877), and aims to highlight how marine life, coastal environments, and human-ocean interactions shape artistic expression in public spaces around the world, trying to all become aware about the importance of the ocean and in maintaining a healthy ocean.

Please upload original photographs (AI photos are not accepted) of murals or street art that:
- Are visibly inspired by the ocean
- Represent marine biodiversity, sea creatures, myths, climate themes, coastal life, cultural ties to the sea, human-ocean relationship, among others
- Are located in public, outdoor spaces accessible to all
🏆 Award Categories
By participating, you’ll be eligible to the following awards:
- Explorer Category: For submitting mural photos from the greatest number of distinct global locations. Award: Eco-friendly sunglasses from recycled marine plastic from https://www.sea2see.org/ and a diploma.
- Contributor Award: For submitting the highest number of qualifying mural photographs overall. Award: Ocean inspired piece of art made of driftwood and a diploma.
The winners will be identified a team of scientific experts from GES4SEAS project. The decision will be final and no appeals will be accepted.
🔬 Scientific Research Component
All submitted artworks will be analysed by marine scientists as part of the GES4SEAS project. Your contribution will help researchers understand how the ocean influences cultural and urban creativity. Outcomes will be shared through a peer-reviewed publication and featured on the GES4SEAS website.
